2wheels4change began in the spring of 2009, when tyle met Felix and Lena at the TransYapit Festival in Istanbul. tyle was searching for musicians for a bicycle band, and Felix wanted to travel by bicycle to Mongolia to visit Lena who was going to study there. The project formed around their interests in working with children, making music performances on the street and building crazy bikes.
Jonglirium e.V. [read more...], a non-profit organisation registered in germany, was founded to promote theater, music and circus as forms of expression -- especially for kids and youth, but also for people of all ages. The cultural bicycle trip to mongolia was the first project of lots more that followed after [See projects above]. There are on-going workshops for building experimental music instruments and open bike workshops, where people can learn new skills and bring their ideas to life, as well as an Open Circus Training every Monday (from 7pm / 19:00 ) at [Shake].
During our projects, we try to spark new ideas and the experience of self-success among the kids and youth we work with. By working with an international group with skills from many different fields, new ideas of living, working and communicating with each other can evolve. Also circus, music and theater can provide a valuable activity -- especially in rural areas where there is less possibility of finding a fulfilling work or freetime acitvity. Furthermore, we focus on projects that deal with issues connected to sustainability & environmental protection, to help raise awareness for the on-going destruction of our planet.
With our work, we try to question existing repressive structures and help find new solutions and our own ways to solve problems. Lastly but most importantly, FUN is the key element that brings everyone together. In what we do -- opposed to the pressure of accomplishment and achievement which often dominates institutional education systems and daily life -- the process is always more important than the product.
Another aim of Jonglirium and the 2wheels4change project is to grant support to street artists and other artists concerning paperwork and organisation. If you have a great idea for a project, [write to us]!
